PLUMES of smoke bellowed from a van which was on fire in Quarry Bank yesterday evening (July 22).
The “accidental ignition” of the van happened on Thorns Road at 10pm last night, with a number of local residents reporting the blaze to West Midlands Fire Service.
Two fire engines from Brierley Hill and Stourbridge fire stations responded to the fire, which caused the road to be closed for a short length of time.
West Midlands Fire Service spokesman Matthew Smith said: “We received quite a few repeat calls at 10pm of an incident involving one small van which was well alight on the Thorns Road, Quarry Bank.
“Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to tackle the blaze, which was of accidental ignition.
“Once the fire was extinguished, the vehicle was left and handed over to the owner for recovery.
“Two fire engines - one from Brierley Hill and another from Stourbridge - responded, with both engines leaving the scene at about 11pm.”
