LATEST plans to redevelop the derelict Longlands School site in Stourbridge have fallen through.
Stourbridge MP Margot James has confirmed, after meeting with bosses at Birmingham Metropolitan College which owns the site, that a second bid to breathe new life into the old school and art college buildings and grounds has failed.
College bosses confirmed in January this year that they had selected a preferred developer to work with to transform the overgrown, locally-listed site after an initial deal with Cameron Homes fell through in summer 2016.
But Ms James has confirmed the second preferred developer to be selected has now also decided to withdraw its interest in the site.
She said: “It is extremely disappointing that a second developer has decided to withdraw their interest in the Longlands site.
The MP said she recently met with council officials, a representative from Stourbridge College/Birmingham Metropolitan College and the police to encourage all parties to find a way to move the project forward again as quickly as possible as the site has become a haven for vandals and is fast being reclaimed by nature.
She added: "I want to reassure residents that I, along with local councillors, will do everything we can to get the redevelopment of the site back on track.”
No-one from Birmingham Metropolitan College was available for comment at time of publishing this article.
