Emergency services were called to the canal near to Hyde Lock, on Thursday, November 4, after police received a call from a member of the public just after 7am.
The body of a man, aged in his 50s, was recovered from the water.
He has been named locally as Steve Yates, from Kinver.
Police are now preparing a report for the coroner, Staffordshire Police said.
