MEMBERS of Stourbridge Chess Club invited coffee fans to try and outwit them in their first ever Costa Coffee Chess Challenge.
The club challenged members of the public to take on their top players in the event held at The Ryemarket coffee outlet on August 14.
Club member Julie Wilson said the event proved a success, although only a handful of coffee drinkers were brave enough to take on the club’s master players for a chance to win a free cup of coffee.
One of those was chess enthusiast Geoff Harris from Stourbridge, a former member of the club, who was the only challenger to beat his opponent and earn himself a free drink.
Stourbridge Chess Club meets at Stourbridge Institute on Wednedays from 7.30pm.
Ahead of the new season, the club is also set to hold a blitz tournament on Wednesday September 1 - to which all members and prospective members are invited.
