STOURBRIDGE musician Sam Martin will be taking on the gruelling three peaks challenge this weekend with his girlfriend and pals to raise cash in memory of his brother.

Sam, aged 27, from The Grove, Withymoor, along with his girlfriend Kayleigh Cottam, aged 25, and a group of friends, will be attempting to scale Britain’s three highest peaks in just 24 hours.

The challenge, which will see the team climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in Cumbria and Mount Snowdon in Wales, has been organised to help raise money for the Joe Gilligan Trust.

Set up in memory of Sam’s brother who died of a brain tumour in September 2009 aged just 20, the Trust supports teenagers and young people with cancer as well as musicians as Joe from Stoke was a keen drummer.

Music teacher Sam, also a talented drummer, said: “We’ve done lots of gigs and all sorts of different things to raise money and we’ve raised over £40,000 in the last year and a half. We’ve never done a serious walk before though. It’s going to be difficult but I think we’ll be ok.”

The group, which also comprises Sam and Kayleigh’s friends from Stoke, will be setting off at midday this Saturday (May 27) and they aim to complete their mountainous adventure by noon the next day.
