MIKE Wilmot is an internationally known comedian who has won two Canadian comedy awards in the past - not so hard to do you may say, but from a country that has produced the likes of Mike Myers, John Candy and Dan Aykroyd, that is a pretty big deal.
He visited the Mitre in Stourbridge for the first time and, fuelled by alcohol which he drank throughout the performance, he produced an entertaining, if different, set based on his observations of his wife and kids and women in general.
One particular passage about racisim being based on whether a country produces good sandwiches was particularly funny and considering the state he was in when he walked on stage he held his act together well.
Earlier, Patrick Draper produced a great middle act performance, following on from Ian Cognito who many afterwards said was the best of the bunch, with a fast, punchy and sharp delivery. that never let up.
Next month sees a big event in the Comedy Hut calendar when three venues host the Stourbridge Comedy Festival, from July 18 to 20, which will include performances from Lucy Porter, Jarred Christmas and many more.
