STAFF and pupils at St James's Primary School in Wollaston have raised around £2,600 for Acorns Children’s Hospice by taking part in sponsored walks.
A series of planned fundraising events for the children's charity kicked off on October 2 with a trek around the Kingsway school grounds for younger pupils and a walk around Wollaston for older pupils.
Staff and governors hope to raise more money for the charity, which cares for terminally ill kids, by hiking up Mount Snowdon in Wales next June and adventurous headteacher Sally Sixsmith is planning to take part in a trek in the mighty Himalayas in October 2014.
A host of other fundraisers for Acorns are also being lined up including a football themed fun afternoon, a family camping and barbecue event next summer and a Great British Bake Off style event.
Sally said: "We are encouraging the children to plan events themselves. We have had lots of children sell cakes to neighbours or do chores at home for pocket money which they have then donated to Acorns.”
Big-hearted businesses or individuals wishing to help the school in its charity fundraising for Acorns can donate raffle prizes by calling 01384 818810 or make cash donations via www.justgiving.com/Sally-Sixsmith
