Vice president, Gillian Ellwell, welcomed everyone to our February Meeting. President, Diane Jones, was seated with the members. It was her 80th birthday and the committee decided that she should enjoy a night off on this very special day.
The president's coffee morning had raised £73. Four of our members had taken part in the Wychbury WI quiz and had done well, coming joint fifth in one section, and second in another, out of a total of 15 teams. Stourton WI had won the competition frying pan at the group pancake day lunch with a bookmark, hand stitched by Jo Pullar.
Diana Cartmel reminded the members she was now selling tickets for the Stourton W.I. bridge drive on the afternoon of April 25, and also reminded the choir that she will be holding a coffee morning on May 5 before rehearsals start again on the May 21.
Our luncheon group were going to the Brasserie in Kidderminster next Sunday, and the member's annual dinner this year will be at the Kinfayre Restaurant, Kinver, on April 4.
Three members of the poetry group had been to Denman College and enjoyed a weekend of reading and writing poems. The skittles team had won their last match, making it four wins in a row.
The craft and art group's next meeting is on March 21 and the walking group will meet up on March 14 for a walk in the Hagley area. Tai chi sessions have proved very popular.
Among the numerous events and outings organised at county level is the annual Lucy Hingley lecture.
This year it is on April 4 and entitled "The Wee-Kest Link" - the subject, of course, women's urinary problems.
Our speaker this evening was Siddique Hussain whose talk on the British Movie Studios was entertaining and informative with a fair amount of audience participation.
Next meeting is on March 21, 7.30 p.m. at Stourton Village Hall when the talk will be "The Story of Amish Quilts", Speaker, Nex. Visitors always welcome.
