COUNCILLORS have given the thumbs-up to plans to ban drinking on the streets in Lye.
Members of Stourbridge Area Committee voted on Monday March 12 to finally put the blockers on public drinking in the High Street and surrounding streets.
Stourbridge Police Inspector Phil Boardman said banning boozers from the streets of Stourbridge had proved successful and he hoped it would do the same in Lye.
He added: "It's not a significant problem in Lye, but this gives us a permanent solution rather than pushing the problem from street corner to street corner."
Lye councillor Pete Lowe said: "It's been a total community effort that this has happened."
Stourbridge councillor Les Jones said the ban had been a long-time in the making as previously it would have proved difficult to enforce, but due to new initiatives such as more PCSOs on the beat it had now become possible.
He added: "It's going to be very welcomed in Lye."
