ACCORDING to press reports, it appears that Tesco has decided to move into the former Morrisons supermarket in the Crown Centre and at the same time appeal to Dudley Council against its refusal to let them build a hypermarket outside the town in the Angel Triangle. This really is a case of a company eating Britain bite by bite. The council should exercise caution and limit Tesco's dominance.

If Tesco really wants to move into the Crown Centre as it exists, they should not delay opening there. Spencer's market is already losing customers because there is no supermarket trading next door. It is not unheard of that supermarkets buy up property in order to stop their competitors moving in.

As for the Angel Triangle, can the council not make a compulsory purchase order to ensure that it is used for something more appropriate such as affordable housing?
