POLICE hunting a hit-and-run driver say witnesses to the fatal collision are yet to come forward.
Mary Hill, aged 77, died after being hit by a vehicle at the junction of Amblecote Road and Hudswell Drive in Brierley Hill at around 10.20pm on Saturday October 21 2006.
The widower, from Quarry Bank, who was struck while returning from a visit to her friend Anne Ballard, died in hospital nine days later.
Anne said: "Mary was a great companion and she never missed a day coming to see me.
"We would regularly go for days out meeting at the bus stop in Amblecote Road.
"She had a zest for life and loved her garden and she was very proud to come from Quarry Bank.
"She is sadly missed by all her friends and my dog Freddy.
"She was a really nice and wonderful lady."
Mary is believed to have been crossing the road after walking down Gayfield Avenue at the time of the collision.
Following the incident a 19-year-old man from Brierley Hill was arrested and later released without charge.
Police believe there were people in the area at the time of the crash who may have vital information for the enquiry.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to call traffic officers at Halesowen Police Station on 0845 113 5000.
