Dudley Town have consolidated their position in the top three of the West Midland Premier League after recording their first ever win over Shawbury United.
A single Scott Foster goal was enough to secure the win and capped a memorable week for The Robins, who also reached the final of the Midweek Floodlit Cup after thumping Massey Ferguson 4-1.
Delighted boss, Mark Kavanagh, reckons his side deserved the victories and said: "We are really pleased with the way we played.
"Shawbury is a difficult place to go to. They are a very well-organised side who play for set pieces and they are very difficult to play against. It is the first time a Dudley team has ever won there so it was an excellent afternoon. If we are being honest then the result flattered them, but we will take the win."
Last Tuesday night's semi final triumph saw the Robins turn round a half time deficit and Kavanagh highlighted the importance of cup competitions: "We know we aren't going to win the league, but we are still in three cups. We have the League Cup and the Wednesbury Charity Cup as well and we want to do as well as we can in all of them."
Town are without a game at the weekend and the boss confirmed that skipper Ross Brown, who missed the win over Shawbury due to work commitments, will be available when they return to action.
Dudley Sports suffered cup agony last week as they lost in extra-time to ruin dreams of an all Dudley final in the Midweek Floodlit Cup.
Midland Combination league leaders Coventry Sphinx needed an injury time breakaway winner to defeat battling Sports and will now face Dudley Town in the final.
Heartbroken Sports joint chief Neil Perks, however, was full of praise for his players, calling the performance "the best we have ever played" and was left wondering if his team are jinxed in the competition.
He said: "It's the third time in four years we have been beaten in extra-time in the semi final.
"I was thinking that it couldn't happen again , but it did. We were all so upset at the end, we didn't know what to say to the boys, but it was an epic game."
Perks admitted that he was concerned about the way the cruel cup defeat would affect his players league form and was relieved after Saturday's 2-2 draw with Bustleholme.
On Saturday Sports are at home again (kick off 3pm) against a struggling Ledbury side who Perks says will represent tough opposition. "Its never easy to play these sides when they are scrapping for points," he explained. "But we are confident in the way we are playing right now."
