At the Society's latest meeting which was held on Thursday 15th February historian and author Don Cochrane presented "A Brief History of Lye & Wollescote - Part 2".

This illustrated talk was the second in a series of two which tell the history of the local area and its prominent families, many of whom were involved in local industries such as coal mining, brick-making and hollowware.

The society was invited to take part in the first Lye Mela festival at Lye Community Centre on February 18 where we displayed a large number of old photographs of Lye which attracted a great deal of interest.

A party from the Society made an interesting visit to Ghausia Mosque in Lye on February 23 where they were made extremely welcome, being allowed to observe the male members of the mosque at their evening prayers and see the children at their religious lessons.

The next meeting will be held on March 15 when we will be holding our Annual General Meeting and following this there will be a talk by local raconteur John Sparry.

The meeting will be open to members and non-members and as usual will be held at Wollescote Community Centre, Wassell Road, Wollescote at 2.30pm, admission will be £1 and light refreshments will be available.
