A STOURBRIDGE teenager got a lecture from the law after a drunken driving lesson went badly wrong.

Simon Pickering crashed his mother's Peugeot after taking the car to show a friend how to do hill starts following a drinking session.

Wolverhampton Crown Court was told learner Pickering asked police after his arrest: "How much trouble am I in?"

Recorder John Aucott told 18-year-old Pickering: "I accept you acted out of foolishness rather than wickedness when you had had quite a lot to drink.

"You got into a lot of trouble with your mother and that should be enough for anyone, but be warned you have come very close to going into custody."

Pickering of Scapell Road admitted taking the vehicle without consent, driving with excess alcohol and without a licence or insurance.

He was given a 12-month Supervision Order, told to carry out 150 hours community punishment, disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to pay £150 costs.

Michael Conry prosecuting said Pickering took his mother's keys and drove off in the car but he lost control at speed and collided with a parked car and a wall.

Mr Stephen Redmond defending said Pickering, a young man of good character, was totally ashamed of his actions.

He said the teenager and his friend were both due to take driving tests and, in drink, he decided to try and show him how to carry out hill starts.
