FLORAL tributes have been laid in honour of Lee Wassell, the 24-year-old victim of a crash in Bridgnorth Road on Saturday.
Lee, from Clee View Road in Wombourne, died after crashing into a tree and a lamp post when driving towards Stourbridge at about 12.40am.
He was found in the road near to the vehicle by passing motorists and despite the efforts of the members of the public and West Midlands Ambulance Service personnel, Lee was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers from Staffordshire Police’s Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and the road was closed until the early morning while a detailed examination took place.
Lee’s friends and family have since visited the site of the crash, near to Stourbridge Rugby Club’s Stourton Park ground, and laid flowers and left messages of condolence.
Among the items placed onto a tree as tribute to Lee were a bugle and a trophy.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the fatal crash and have asked anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone who saw Lee’s blue 'R' registered Subaru Imprezza beforehand to contact them on 101 quoting incident 38.
Specialist officers are supporting Lee’s family at this time and his family have asked that they be allowed time to come to terms with their tragic loss.
