KINVER'S MP Gavin Williamson has been appointed a CBE for political and public service in the Prime Minister's Resignation Honours.
Gavin, MP for South Staffordshire, served as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to David Cameron for three years until his resignation following the EU Referendum.
He was then promoted to Chief Whip in Theresa May’s Cabinet reshuffle following her appointment as Prime Minister last month.
Mr Williamson said he was "extremely honoured and humbled" to have been appointed a Commander of the British Empire and he added: "It was such a privilege to work so closely and serve as the former Prime Minister’s Parliamentary Private Secretary for three years.
“To be Member of Parliament for South Staffordshire is honour enough but to have been made Chief Whip and have a CBE is certainly something I never would have thought would happen.
"It was such a wonderful surprise and I am extremely grateful to have been recognised.”
