TRAVELLERS who have set up camp on land off Turners Lane in Brierley Hill look set to be ordered to move on within days, the News has been informed.
A collection of caravans have parked up on a playing field next to One Stop convenience store – sparking concern among residents.
Some of the travellers are believed to have been seen previously at a site in Netherton.
Councillor Paul Bradley said members of the group told him they were only staying in the area for around three days for a family christening but he told the News today: “Three days has come and gone.”
He said, however, he expects the group will be forced to move off the site within a couple of days as the council has successfully obtained court approval to evict them.
Cllr Bradley said his phone and email inbox had been “very active” with calls and messages from worried and angry residents since the travellers arrived on Monday evening.
One News reader, who did not wish to be named, said inhabitants of the “large number of very big and posh caravans, cars, vans and lorries” had set up large gas canisters, generators and other equipment close to people’s homes as well as “hanging washing from lines set up between lamp-posts and trees.”
The worried resident said the arrival of the vehicles had churned up the field and added: "It has become a no-go area for local residents".
Another angry resident said: “It’s just bringing the whole tone of the area right down.”
The group have reportedly been given bin bags for the their rubbish but cllr Bradley said the council cannot move to clear up on the site until the travellers have moved off.
