THE life of acclaimed Worcestershire composer Edward Elgar will be explored during the next meeting of Clent History Society.
Well-known local historian Brian Draper will inform and entertain the society with his talk “Elgar’s Countryside” which will take place on Thursday (September 22) at Clent Parish Hall, in Church Avenue.
His talk will go on a journey from Elgar’s birthplace, then through Malvern, Ledbury, Hereford and Gloucester.
Brian will visit several of the houses in which Elgar lived, his favourite haunts, his old school, places of worship and other places he loved and visited, including one of his favourite pubs and his favourite fishing spots on the Teme and Lugg.
Throughout the journey, Brian will also cast his expert eye over the countryside, and how it has changed since Elgar’s time.
Non-members are welcome to attend the talk, which starts at 8pm, for a fee of £2.50 which includes tea, coffee and biscuits at the end of the evening.
