A STOURBRIDGE karate club has raised a four figure sum for a Worcestershire children’s charity.

Young Gloves Karate, which runs two weekly classes at Greenfield Primary and St Joseph’s Primary Schools, has raised £6,720 last year.

Each year, the group raises money for local charities through fundraising activities with 2016’s funds being donated to New Hope, in Worcester.

Lisa Homer, marketing manager, said: “Last year was yet another successful year for Young Gloves both in our charity fundraising and in competitions.

“We wanted to find a local children’s charity that needed to build or develop an area.

“We are so lucky to have such generous members, family and friends that support us every year in doing these events.”

The money will help New Hope build a new play area, as well as improving on their other facilities. The charity are a non-profit specialist provision working with families who have children with disabilities and complex health care needs.

Over the last 12 years, Young Gloves Karate, which also has groups in Kidderminster, Stourport, Bewdley, has raised more than £56,000 for local children’s charities.

Sensei Justin Thomas presented the cheque in front of one of his classes on January 27, in Cookley, to New Hope manager and founder Jean Wilson MBE and officer manager Laura Hamilton.
