MATCH angling star, Alan Higgs, is showing the youngsters age is no barrier in winning angling contests in a competitive career spanning 44 years.
The 69-year-old retired pet shop owner has no inclination to give up the competitive match angling scene, as he showed last week in four super days at Hunnington Fishery Halesowen in which he had two match wins and a third place.
The pensioner has an enviable match winning record over those four decades on rivers and is now showing today's young match angling talent how it's done on commercial pool complexes.
He's still remembered amongst the match angling fraternity when in one season he put together a fifteen match winning sequence.
Asked if he could give these up and coming match stars a tip to improve their match winning averages, Alan said: "Feeding carefully and plumbing the depth properly, are the two most important parts of a match anglers armoury, get those two spot on each match and the wins will come along, sooner or later."
Alan is having a great deal of success at the moment, fishing pellet on the hook over a bed of pellets, on the matches at Hunnington which are held every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
