STOURTON residents Peter and Jenny Brookes will be opening their rarely seen ancient bluebell wood to the public for a second year running as part of the National Gardens Scheme.
Keeper’s Cottage Bluebell Wood in Greensforge Lane will be open on Saturday May 6 and Sunday May 7, from 11am to 3.30pm on both days.
The woodland, which was opened to the public for the first time ever last year, boasts more than three acres of bluebells along the banks of Smestow Brook, close to the River Stour; and it is a haven for wildlife including great-spotted and green woodpeckers, willow warblers, chiff-chaffs, nuthatches, yellowhammers, greenfinches, tree-creepers, tawny owl, little owl, coal tits, willow tits, chaffinches, and buzzards.
Mr Brooks said: “It proved hugely popular last year, 650 people turned up over the two days and we raised £2,300 for the National Gardens Scheme.”
He added: “The bluebells have been out for two weeks and they’re looking lovely. We’re hoping for a good response again this year – if not bigger than last time.”
Money raised will go to charities supported by the National Gardens Scheme.
Keeper’s Cottage is located in Greensforge Lane, off the A458 Stourbridge to Bridgnorth Road.
Light refreshments and teas will be available during both days.
