AN inquest into the fatal stabbings of Stourbridge mother and son Tracey and Pierce Wilkinson has been suspended.
Tracey, aged 50, and her 13-year-old son were fatally stabbed multiple times at their home in Greyhound Lane, Norton, on Thursday, March 30.
An inquest into their deaths was opened at Black Country Coroners court this afternoon (Friday, May 19).
The court heard how both Tracey, a housewife who was born in Quarry Bank, and Pierce, a student at Redhill School, were stabbed multiple times during an attack at their home at about 8am.
The court was also told that husband and father Peter Wilkinson, 47, was also stabbed at his home before calling the police. He was found by officers in the garden of the property while his wife and son were discovered in the house.
Tracey was pronounced dead at the scene and Pierce was pronounced dead later that morning at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Peter suffered wounds to his chest before being taken to hospital in a critical condition. He is now recovering at home.
The inquest, which lasted five minutes, was suspended by Senior Black Country Coroner Zafar Siddique pending the outcome of a criminal trial which concerns homeless man Aaron Barley, who is accused of murdering the mother and her son.
Barley, 23, was not asked to enter pleas to the murders of Tracey and Pierce when he appeared at Birmingham Crown Court earlier this month, but did admit to attempting to kill Peter.
Pierce's 18-year-old sister Lydia, who was not at the address at the time of the stabbings, attended the 10-minute crown court hearing on May 3, sitting in the public gallery about 10 feet away from Barley.
Barley was remanded in custody until a further hearing on Wednesday, July 19, but he is expected to stand trial accused of murder before a High Court judge on Tuesday, October 3.
In a statement issued shortly after her mother and brother's deaths, Miss Wilkinson, a student at Bristol University, said family members were devastated at their loss.
Det Chief Insp Ed Foster of West Midlands Police said Tracey and Pierce’s family members where aware of this afternoon’s inquest hearing, but chose not to attend.
