STUDENTS at a Stourbridge school have been picking up top broadcasting tips from BBC radio stars.
Popular BBC WM presenters Sunny and Shay Grewal spent the day at Pedmore Technology College today (Tuesday June 20) as part of the station’s summer tour which will see favourite DJs getting out and about in the community.
Pupils and staff at the Grange Lane school were interviewed live on air as the pair broadcast their show from the classrooms between 2pm and 4pm.
The school choir Pedmore Voices also performed live – while drama students performed an extract of their Willie Wonka play.
Lorraine Turner, director of communications at the school, said: "This has been a really amazing experience and opportunity for our students to showcase their talents and for us to give a flavour of the kind of initiatives that we create.
“Our students also learnt about broadcasting and the many roles in the sector. Many thanks go to BBC WM and Sunny and Shay and their team for giving us this great opportunity to shine.”
BBC WM’s summer tour kicked off on Monday with breakfast show presenter Alex Lester broadcasting from a narrowboat on the Stourbridge Canal.
Tomorrow morning (Wednesday) Caroline Martin will be with the Antiques Roadshow crew which is stopping off at Dudley’s Black Country Living Museum.
Thursday will see Franksy (Paul Franks) visiting Stourbridge Cricket Club and on Friday Danny Kelly will be in Mary Stevens Park.
The month-long tour will culminate in a Super Show on July 14 when all weekday programmes will be broadcast from different locations to celebrate Black Country Day.
