A KINVER woman will take on her biggest cycling challenge for charity to date, as she gears up for Velo Birmingham later this month.
Sarah Roberts, a member of Stourbridge Cycling Club, will take part in the 100-mile Velo Birmingham event on Sunday September 24, raising funds for the Alzheimer's Society.
Sarah, a teacher at Holy Trinity School and Sixth Form Centre in Kidderminster, has only recently taken-up cycling as a way to avoid running injuries. She cycles regularly - even riding from home in Kinver to Holy Trinity, and back.
She said: "I have always loved a sporting challenge and ran the London Marathon for charity way back in 1985 while still a teenager.
"Having bought my first ever bike exactly a year ago, I have found a whole new world.
"New friends, amazing countryside, new pubs and cafes, and even new muscles.
"Taking part in this 100-mile challenge through gorgeous countryside, including through my own beloved village of Kinver, will be amazing and having received confirmation that I would be riding on behalf of the Alzheimer's Society, I am absolutely delighted, if slightly daunted."
Many of Sarah's friends' parents suffer with Alzheimer's and live daily with the effects and impact dementia has on their family units.
Sarah has already smashed her fundraising target of £400 - having raised £550 to date on her JustGiving page (justgiving.com/fundraising/Sarah-Roberts92).
But anyone still wishing to donate to give Sarah's charity efforts a boost and help the Alzheimer's Society can still do so.
