A KIND gesture by a recently retired couple from Hagley will help to keep rescued greyhounds warm on chilly days.
Carl and Joan Ashmore, of Kidderminster Road, were each given a £75 retirement gift after notching up a total of 95 years in the civil service.
But instead of spending the £150 on themselves - the couple requested the money go towards high vis jackets for rescued race hounds being cared for by the Greyhound Trust.
The pair, both big animal lovers, said: “The money has just about covered the price of about two jackets each so we’ve bought four jackets for the trust."
A spokesman for the trust, which has kennels at Wassell Grove, Hagley, said: “We’re so grateful for their kindness in thinking of the hounds in our care."
The couple now hope to become volunteer dog walkers for the charity which looks to find retirement homes for former race hounds after their track days are over.
