Bid to find Pedmore dog walker after Staffy attacks rescue mutt

The incident happened on the corner of Bromwich Lane and Hagley Road, Stourbridge, at around 8.15am on Monday April 15 and also left dog owner John Home needing hospital treatment.

Mr Home tried to intervene when the large black Staffordshire bull terrier type dog sank its teeth into his treasured Spanish rescue mutt Rolly and he ended up with bites to his hand and in need of medical injections.

Meanwhile, Rolly the dog had to be rushed to the vets after losing consciousness following the attack. The cute cross breed dog, which they rescued from Alicante in Spain where he was a feral pup living in a field ten years ago, was bitten on his neck and back leg but is now recovering at home.

Val Billingham, Mr Home's partner, said: "Rolly is a lovely dog, he is sweet tempered, very handsome and really well-behaved; he is not a threat to anyone. He did not deserved to be picked on by this bully who got him by the neck and was shaking him."

She said despite the traumatic experience Rolly was making a good recovery but "is still walking on three legs and continues to require veterinary treatment".

She added: "This has affected our family in many ways and our walks have now become a stressful event instead of an enjoyable one."

She said the dog walker in charge of the pooch which attacked Rolly said she would contact them after they'd been to the vets but never did and they have not seen her since.

Mrs Billingham said: "We need to find this person and the dog urgently before this happens to someone else, next time it could be worse or even a child.

"This woman was not in control of the dog which is clearly very strong and vicious."

The couple, of Ferndale Park, believe the woman they wish to trace is a professional dog walker as Mr Home has passed her many times before during his morning walk but they fear the dog's owners might not know the pooch attacked another animal while out on its walk.

Mrs Billingham said: "Despite asking everyone we meet locally in the Wollescote and Pedmore area, on Facebook and Nextdoor social media we have not been able to locate the woman or the dog."

Mrs Billingham stressed she does not wish to see the dog put down but she believes it ought to be muzzled or harnessed while out on walks.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said enquiries were ongoing and a woman contacted police officers shortly after the alleged incident took place.
