NINE further coronavirus related deaths have been confirmed at Russells Hall Hospital.

The announcement from hospital chiefs today means a total of 154 patients have died at the hospital after testing positive for COVID-19.

Hospital chiefs said the nine patients were aged between 63 and 94-years-old and all had underlying health conditions.

Diane Wake, chief executive of The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, said in a statement: "Sadly, we can confirm that 154 patients being cared for at our hospital, and had tested positive for COVID-19, have died. Nine of those have been announced today.

"The patients were aged between 63 and 94 years old and all patients had underlying health conditions.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of those patients at this very difficult and distressing time."

The news comes as the total number of patients who have died in hospitals in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus reached 12,868, according Department of Health figures today (April 15).

A total of 475 cases have been confirmed in Dudley - and 593 in Sandwell, according to latest figures published by Public Health England.
