AN 85-year-old Halesowen man died due to industrial disease, a coroner has concluded.
Retired wages clerk Harold Box, of Long Lane, passed away at Russells Hall Hospital on April 5, having been admitted on March 27.
Black Country coroner Zafar Siddique said Mr Box, who was born in Tipton, died from fluid on the lungs due to industrial mesothelioma.
He told the hearing at Black Country Coroners Court in Oldbury that Mr Box had been diagnosed with mesothelioma in September 2019 and in October he'd been awarded industrial disease compensation and a pension from the government.
He said Mr Box believed he had been exposed to asbestos dust while working as a wages clerk at a foundry in the West Midlands some years ago and he said: "Given the circumstances and the likely exposure to asbestos I’m going to conclude he died by way of industrial disease."
