A DAD is helping relieve lockdown boredom for youngsters by recreating classic children's stories with a Black Country twist.

Chris Bishop has retold children's favourites 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', 'We're Going On a Bear Hunt' and 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea' on YouTube, all in Black Country dialect.

The 36-year-old was inspired to make the videos to make sure his children, Kobi, aged nine and three-year-old Athie, can learn about their roots.

Chris is originally from Netherton but moved to the Cotswolds with his family five years ago after working around the world.

He told the News: "I started it as a bit of fun as I wanted my kids to understand their roots and not get too posh! A few words I come out with they ask, what does that mean?"

After posting his first story on Youtube, Chris was flooded with requests for more tales celebrating the Black Country accent and dialect.

The popular stories are now called 'The Tiger That Come To Tay' and 'Goooin on a Bear Hunt Aye We' as part of a series called Black Country Bed Time Stories.

He added: "It's been great fun, I hope I can raise a smile for people during lockdown."

Chris, who works as a marketing manager, has plans to narrate more stories in his native tongue, with Stick Man by the Gruffalo author Julia Donaldson lined up.
