DRAMATIC photos show the demolition of Cavendish House gaining pace, as work continues to remove the eyesore from the Dudley landscape.

Demolition work began on the infamous block in January and new photos show the building quickly being reduced to rubble.

Residents have been waiting for over two decades to see the former Inland Revenue building pulled down, after years of delays.

Once the demolition is finished, the site will begin a new life as a housing, retail and leisure development.

The £82 million development will form part of a wider £1 billion regeneration project across the Dudley borough.

Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of the council, said: "In the uncertain times we are living in at the moment as a result of Covid-19, this is a sign of a brighter future and of the recovery and resurgence of Dudley.

"Cavendish House has been a blot on the skyline of Dudley for far too long.

"I am sure these pictures will be welcomed by a lot of residents in the borough looking for a bit of good news amongst the gloom of our current times."

The demolition is one part of ambitious regenerations plans for Dudley which include the ongoing work to bring the Midland Metro to the town via an extension of the line from Wednesbury to Brierley Hill.

Plans are also in the pipeline for a new multi-million bus and tram interchange in Dudley town centre.
