HIMLEY Park has been reopened to the public, but council bosses have warned it will be closed again if social distancing rules are not followed.

The grounds at Himley Hall were closed to visitors last month after crowds were spotting gathering at the spot, flouting social distancing rules.

Bosses at Dudley Council say they have reviewed the closure following government advice over the weekend stating parks should be open for people to carry out daily exercise.

Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council said: "We want all our parks to be open so people have somewhere to go for fresh air and exercise.

"The decision to close Himley park was not taken lightly and we hope that once re-opened, visitors will follow the clear government rules around social distancing and remain at least two metres apart from others.

"If people follow the advice, we will all be doing what we can to defend ourselves from this terrible outbreak.

"This decision to open the park again will be kept under review and if people flout the very clear government rules, I will not hesitate to reconsider.

"People need to stay at home, save lives and protect the NHS.”

Social distancing rules state people must only leave home for essential reasons, including exercise, and when out should keep a two metre distance from others.
