CEMETERIES connected to Gornal and Stourbridge crematoriums have reopened to visitors.

The reopening, following government advice, comes as Dudley Council closed both sites last week for all except those attending burial services.

The gates to both cemeteries are now open to visitors but funerals and cremation services will continue to be limited to a maximum of ten people.

Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said: “We had closed the gates to Stourbridge and Gornal Wood cemeteries to visitors not attending funeral services last week on government advice at the time. However, on new government advice we are now able to open the gates once again.

“We are aware of how important it is for families to be able to visit the cemetery sites to remember loved ones, but I would, however, like to remind people to maintain social distancing when visiting by remaining at least two metres away from others.”

Dudley, Dudley New, Lye and Wollescote, Cradley, Halesowen and Brierley Hill cemeteries are also open to the public.
