THE kind-hearted owner of a Hurst Green convenience store has hit the road to deliver hundreds of orders to vulnerable customers.

Amritpal Kang, who manages the Nisa store on Woodbury Road, has been rushed off his feet carrying out free deliveries to the over 70s and those with a newborn baby.

The 34-year-old married father-of-one has been averaging 15 deliveries a day for the last six weeks as well as managing the store, which is owned by his father Balbir Kang, aged 63.

The family have run the shop since 1992 when Ampritpal was aged seven.

The shop was also one of a handful of businesses which clubbed together to donate pizzas and drinks to NHS staff at Sandwell Hospital.

Amritpal, who has a ten-month-old daughter, said: "I go out on two runs, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

"I wanted to help people who have been affected by the lockdown and shouldn't be going out - so this is a way they can get their shopping without having to leave home."

Amritpal said he rationed products when panic buying started as he felt stockpiling was unfair, which has meant he has not run out of essential products.

He said: "We had one lady post on Facebook about how she had finished work and went to six shops, but couldn't find a loaf until she got here."

The 34-year-old said he has since been able to lift rationing as panic buying has stopped while social distancing is being observed inside the shop.

Amritpal also said he wanted to thank Halesowen North councillor Joe Roberts who had offered to help with free deliveries.

The store is open from 7am until 10pm from Monday to Saturday and also opens on Sundays.

People who live in the Hurst Green area and are over 70 or have a newborn baby can phone the shop on 0121 4222962 and make and pay for their order over the phone and Amritpal will deliver for free.
