A DUDLEY paramedic and councillor has set himself a 'moustache-a-thon' challenge inspired by 80s icon Magnum PI to raise funds for St John's Ambulance in the fight against coronavirus.

The fundraising challenge will see Councillor Adam Aston grow a moustache inspired by his childhood hero Tom Selleck who played the popular private investigator.

It comes as Cllr Aston, who represents Upper Gornal and Woodsetton on Dudley Council, has recently been appointed as the Area President for St John's Ambulance in the Dudley borough.

The role is alongside his full time job as a paramedic for West Midlands Ambulance Service, where he is on the front line of the pandemic.

Cllr Aston said: "It's a great honour to be appointed as Area President of St John Ambulance in the Dudley Borough.

"The organisation has stepped forward to support the NHS like never before; our volunteers are out on the frontline at the Nightingale Hospitals, emergency departments, working on ambulances and supporting local communities."

The challenge kicks off on Saturday, April 25 and will be the first time the councillor has sported facial hair- and he says he is curious how it will turn out.

He added: "St John's members are undertaking far more physical challenges than my moustache-a-thon, but having never grown one before, who knows how it will turn out!"
