A KIND-hearted steel worker has made and displayed a heartfelt statue on a major roundabout in Dudley to thank NHS staff on the front line against coronavirus.

Liam Harris has created the sculpture of a NHS nurse and has placed it on Cinder Bank Island as a way of thanking NHS staff for their dedication during the coronavirus crisis.

Liam works at his family's steel company, Colstan Profiles Ltd on nearby Pear Tree Lane, and made the statue at the firm.

He told the News: "I had a bit of spare time and I thought it would be a nice idea.

"I put it on the island as that many ambulances go past and staff travelling to Russells Hall, I thought they will see it everyday.

"I hope it puts a smile on their faces."

The 29-year-old made the design on computer software and cut it out of a steel sheet, before displaying it on the island on Wednesday.

It is not the first time Liam, from Dudley, has exhibited a statue on the island for a good cause.

He is also behind the statue of a First World War solider on the island, which he created for Remembrance Sunday last year.
