A PENSNETT teenager whose parents both work for the NHS has taken on a mile-a-day running challenge to raise money for Russells Hall Hospital.

Kind-hearted Georgia Joshy set out to raise £100 for the Dudley hospital by running one mile each day for 30 days.

However she smashed her target after only just four days of running and the donations keep pouring in.

Supporting the NHS is a cause close to Georgia's heart as he mum Mary is a nurse in the stroke unit at Russells Hall Hospital and her dad is a renal nurse in Kidderminster.

Georgia, who is a Year 11 student at Bishop Milner School in Dudley, said: "I wasn’t a runner before and started doing it for the cause. I wanted everyone at the Trust to know there were people standing behind them and giving them support, and they were not alone.

“I have worked out a running route to the hospital and back and so far I am enjoying it!”

Her efforts have been applauded by Dudley NHS chief executive Diane Wake, who said: “This is so kind of Georgia and an amazing thing to do. We really appreciate her efforts and generosity.”

With support and donations pouring in from the community for the hard work of staff at Russells Hall Hospital, a committee has been set up to decide how best to spend the money on improving care and experience for patients and staff.
