POLICE were given a helping hand to apprehend a hot-footed suspect when a quick-thinking member of the public offered an officer a lift during a chase.
Officers from Brierley Hill began a pursuit after spotting a van in Kingswinford High Street which they suspected had no insurance yesterday (Saturday April 25)
Dudley PC Jamie Follows said the van made off at speed with the driver eventually losing control at the junction of Enville Road, Wall Heath, where the vehicle collided with a hedge.
Both occupants fled but the driver was detained after a short foot chase, PC Follows said.
The passenger, however, ran for some distance and was eventually apprehended after a member of the public gave one of the officers a lift to catch him.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop, and both men were arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply after police found "a large amount of suspected class A drugs and several mobile phones".
