PEOPLE can find out more about local history and take part in activities on Dudley Council’s museums webpages.

Council staff who usually run activities at Dudley Museum at Dudley Archives and Wordsley's Red House Glass Cone are offering the activities throughout the coronavirus lockdown.

New content unlocking the history of Dudley Castle during the civil war has been uploaded to dudley.gov.uk/museums giving people an insight into an exhibition coming to the gallery once government restrictions are lifted.

To celebrate Dudley Castle being 950 years old the council is asking everyone in the Dudley borough to be involved in the creation of a virtual exhibition for the castle.

An online exhibition will be created at dcep.co.uk and people can create an image, design, Lego building, shape poem or junk art design of the castle, photograph it and send to dcep@dudley.gov.uk.

The council’s ‘avin-a-loff’ section also features free online activities and resources for primary school aged children.

Fun learning tasks include counting trilobites, glass word searches and a materials hunt around the house. People can find out more online at dudley.gov.uk/things-to-do/museums/learning/avin-a-loff/.

Councillor Ian Kettle, Dudley's cabinet member for enterprise and economic regeneration, said: "It is sad that many of our centres have had to close to the public at the moment, due to the coronavirus outbreak, but we strongly believe that people can continue to connect and learn using #DudleyStaysHome.

"Our wonderful museum and visitor attraction teams are working hard to create a range of activities for people of all ages to enjoy online and I would encourage families and individuals to look at the wonderful resources available.

It is also hoped that residents will take part in the national BBC #MuseumFromHome event today (Thursday April 30).
