DETERMINED to ensure long-serving WI member Daphne Marsh didn't miss out entirely on her 90th birthday celebration, big-hearted friends turned up on her doorstep to sing a socially distanced Happy Birthday.
Fifteen members of Wychbury WI turned out to surprise former chairman Daphne, from Pedmore, with a gift and a song on her big birthday on May 18 after the coronavirus lockdown and social distancing measures put a stop to a party that had been on the cards.
The popular pensioner, of St Peter's Road, was taken aback when she opened the door and she described the moment as "a wonderful surprise".
Wychbury WI member Janet Gardiner said: "We had a good turnout and she was really thrilled.
"We were going to go out for lunch but of course we couldn't do that so we gathered in her front garden and sang Happy Birthday and presented her with a basket of flowers."
Daphne, who has been a member of the group since 1985 and chairman twice, said she longs for the day when the WI can resume its meetings.
Wychbury WI usually meets on the third Wednesday of every month at Pedmore CofE Primary School but members have not met in person since February due to the coronavirus outbreak.
