A STOURBRIDGE brewery has come up with the purr-fect way to help stray cats.

The Green Duck Brew Co in Rufford Road has teamed up with George the station cat and his supporters at Stourbridge Junction and Stumpy Cat Books to create a new charity brew which will raise money for the West Midlands based Stray Cat Rescue Team.

The team at the Green Duck brewery took to Twitter to ask the public to choose a name for the special brew and to select the chosen cause it would raise funds for.

George's Rail Ale proved the most popular choice and members of the public voted for proceeds to be donated to @StrayCatsWM.

Stumpy Cat Books did the artwork and Think Creative in Amblecote, designers for the Green Duck, helped to create the label free of charge.

Alex Hill, director of the Green Duck Brew Co, came up with the idea to team up with George a few months ago, having become an avid follower of the famous feline's upbeat tweets.

He said: "We always try to do things for charity - and we'd been following George for a while so we approached his Twitter team two or three months ago about doing something for charity."

Alex described the bottled brew as a "light and refreshing easy drinking pale ale - packed with pawfect purrsonality" and he said: "It's going pretty well so far. If it sells out super quickly we might get some more done."

Bottles can be bought individually or in a gift pack from the Green Duck web shop online at https://greenduckbrewery.co.uk.

George and his team took to Twitter earlier today to promote the new ale, saying: "Whoo-hoo - it’s on sale. Thank you so much for everybody who took part in the voting to find a name and a charity - which is @StrayCatsWM

"Thank you @greenduckbrew for being so brilliant and brewing such a lovely ale. Thank you @StumpyCatBooks for the art."

George hismeownself added: "I am catstatic to see meownself's George's Rail Ale from the wonderful Green Duck Brewery on sale.

"This was a real collaboration ale with our lovely followers voting for not only the name but for the charity for the proceeds to go to - which is the Stray Cats Team West Midlands.

"Stumpy Cat, aka the very talented Harriet Armstrong, designed and donated the artwork to help raise money for this wonderful charity.

"We are so purrleased to continue the great charity work and also promote local businesses."

All profits will be donated to the Stray Cat Rescue Team.
