TWO kind-hearted Wollaston sisters are once again raising money for a cause close to their hearts.

Imogen and Hollie Shuttleworth are fundraising for Birmingham Children's Hospital once more and they have set themselves a mountainous challenge.

The youngsters, aged 11 and seven respectively, have taken on an array of fundraising expeditions previously and have raised more than £12,000 for the hospital.

Their adventures to date have included a night run, a 120ft abseil, climb up Mount Snowdon, walk to Birmingham from Stourbridge, cycle ride to Birmingham from Worcester and a 340km walk during lockdown.

This time they have set themselves the 'Everest Challenge' and have set about scaling various peaks including Pen Y Fan, Clee Hill, the Malvern Hills and The Wrekin until they total 9,000 metres (the height of Everest - the highest mountain in the world).

Imogen, who is due to start at Kinver High in September, and Hollie, who attends St James's Primary School, began fundraising for Birmingham Children's Hospital as Hollie had two operations there when she was younger.

More recently a friend has received cancer treatment at the hospital so they wanted to carry on raising money for the cause that has a special place in their hearts.

To date with their latest challenge, which they expect to complete this weekend, they have raised just over £1,000.

Their proud mum Samantha Shuttleworth said: "The girls have walked in all weathers - perfect conditions right the way through to too windy, too wet and too hot.

"They’ve not found it easy - we have talked about the difference it will make to the families at BCH half way up numerous mountains to keep going.

"It’s been a big commitment - researching, travelling and encouraging family and friends along. But these girls are determined and have never given up. Myself and my husband are in awe of the kindness and compassion they show by completing these challenges to help others - as a family we know how important the extra mile BCH goes to is."
