RESIDENTS in Brierley Hill are invited to celebrate the centenary of the town's Marsh Park with a host of community events this weekend.
The Friends of Marsh Park will host a ‘picnic in the park’ on Saturday September 18 to mark 100 years since Marsh Park on the corner of North Street and Church Street first opened in 1921.
Brierley Hill Musical Theatre Company will also be hosting the ‘Brierley Hill Boogie’, which will be an afternoon of fitness and fun.
There'll be traditional sports such as egg and spoon racing, talks, dancing and brick-making workshops.
Frank Chamberlain, chairman of the Friends of Marsh Park, said of the picnic: "Families will need to bring their own picnic, but we will also be feeding those who use the Foodbank for free."
People are invited to bring a rug, a picnic and soft drinks. The event will be opened by the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Anne Millward, at midday and the picnic will run until 2pm (and tidy up until 3pm).
People can find out more online at http://brierleyhill.net about the event, which comes after a host of activities were laid on last weekend as part of the Heritage Open Days scheme.
