A MAN from Stourbridge has opened his first barbers, offering a wide range of services from traditional haircuts and skin fades to beard reshapes and luxury grooming.
Declan Jacobs has taken the plunge and opened his first shop off Bromsgrove High Street at 1A Chapel Street.
Despite his young age at only 21, Declan has years of experience, starting in the business at the age of 16.
He felt now was the right time to open the shop, which is named Declan Jacobs Barbering.
Declan said: “I am excited more than anything but as I was completing the final preparations the nerves started kicking in.
“I have been a barber since I was 16 as I started as an apprentice which I think is the best way to learn in this kind of job.
“You can watch other barbers and hairdressers and take tips form their work.
“You can attend academies and it really helps.”
Declan has travelled the world due to his father’s career.
Born in New Jersey, America, the family then moved to Manchester and settled in Stourbridge when Declan was 15, where he attended Old Swinford Hospital School.
The father of one, added: “The company I used to work for had shops in Worcester and Birmingham, so Bromsgrove is kind of a mid-point way for my clients.
“At the moment it will be just myself working at the shop, even though I have three chairs.
"I will take people on as soon as we can.
“I need to build up reputation and the business first.
“I also want people who work with me to be the right person, which takes time.”
Declan Jacobs Barbering is open 8am to 6pm Tuesday and Wednesday, 9am to 8pm Thursday and Friday and 8am to 5pm on Saturday.
