Stourbridge Rambler marks 90th birthday with six-mile walk

Dudley McGill, from Stourbridge, who hit the big 9-0 on January 21, enjoyed a six-mile walk around fields and woodland at Romsley before celebrating his milestone birthday with a meal at The Sun on Sunday (January 23).

Mr McGill is the oldest member of the group which comprises members aged from 30 upwards.

Elaine Davey, voluntary vice chair, Stourbridge Ramblers, said: "Dudley at the age of 90 is an inspiration to all of our ramblers both old and new.

"He is so passionate and knowledgeable both about walking and about nature and we all learn from him.

"To still be leading walks at his age, normally with chairman Margaret Darby as his trusty partner, is amazing.

"Dudley finds his regular rambles a great way to keep fit and mobile with the bonus of retaining his interest in the great outdoors and maintaining an active social life with people from all different backgrounds and ages."

She said "a good time was had by all" on Sunday's "very muddy but enjoyable walk" which saw 29 Ramblers turn out.
