MEMBERS of a Black Country Harley-Davidson motorbike group have collected thousands of items to take to Poland to help people fleeing Ukraine.
Wulfruna Chapter members have been collecting money and items for Ukrainian refugees crossing the border into Poland and on Thursday March 31 they were setting off on a 1,400-mile trip to deliver the supplies.
Chapter members Gavin Freebairn at That Cleaning Guy and Trevor Newman at T Newman Ltd have donated two high top LWB vans to transport the thousands of items that have been generously donated which include nappies, baby wipes, powdered baby milk and women’s sanitary products.
Gavin is also making the trip to the Ukraine/Polish border along with fellow chapter members Kevin Taplin, Paul Willis, John Baggot, Morgan Whittle and Mark Cutler.
Mark, director of the chapter which has members from across Stourbridge, Kingswinford and Dudley, said: “We have been overwhelmed at the response we have had to the Ukrainian Refugee Appeal, it has completely blown us away.
“Initially we set out with an idea a couple of weeks ago to take some water out in a van to the Polish-Ukrainian Border.
“Since then, it has snowballed. Whilst it’s impossible to give you the exact amount donated, I expect it to be in the region of £8,000 to £9,000 of financial and goods donated.
“We will be taking three vans full to the rafters of contributions.”
Paul Brothwood, assistant director of the chapter, added: “The generosity of club members and their friends and family has been immeasurable.
“In addition, local companies have also played a huge role in helping make this happen, including Sainsbury’s, T Newman Ltd, M3 Agency UK and others.
“This has been a fantastic effort and we hope this will go some way to help those fleeing the awful crisis in Ukraine.”
