SEVERN Trent Water was instructed by the council to remove road closure signs it put in place in Stourbridge today (Thursday, April 7).
The water firm is looking to carry out work on Worcester Street, just off the ring road, and had diversion signs and cones in place this afternoon.
However, Dudley Council instructed the company to remove its traffic management measures, as they "did not have permission" to close the road.
A council spokesperson said: "DMBC have contacted Severn Trent Water and instructed them to remove this traffic management as it does not have permission to be in place, and if it is absolutely required, works will need to be replanned and proceed through the established application process".
Severn Trent said it is now reviewing the best way to carry out work on the road from a traffic management perspective.
A spokesperson for Severn Trent said: “We’d like to thank customers in advance for essential work we need to carry out on Worcester Street to install a new connection.
"To keep everyone safe, we’ll need to put temporary traffic management in place. We’ll continue to work closely with the local authority to minimise any disruption as much as possible.”
