A FIRE that ripped through a Lye scrapyard is believed to have been started deliberately.
Residents were urged to keep their windows and doors closed after a blaze broke out at a scrapyard on Bromley Street in the early hours of Wednesday (May 11).
Scrap vehicles and tyres were destroyed, leaving the scrapyard full of charred goods.
Crews from Brierley Hill, Haden Cross, Oldbury and Stourbridge attended the fire and used three main jets and two hose reels to bring the incident under control.
West Midlands Fire Service now believes the cause of the blaze was deliberate.
They said: “Investigations into the cause of this incident concluded and the cause is believed to be deliberate.
“The incident has been left with West Midlands Police and crews have cleared the scene”.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "The fire is suspected as being arson and anyone with information can contact us via Live Chat on our website, and quote 20/451645/22".
