THOUSANDS of people turned out for Armed Forces Day celebrations at Himley Hall on Sunday (June 26).

The free event, run by Dudley Council and supported by Fieldings Auctioneers in Stourbridge and Jewson, is one of the biggest celebrations of the armed forces in the region.

Visitors enjoyed a paintball gallery, vintage military vehicle display and dance lesson taster sessions hosted by All About Swing.

There was also Lily & Lolly's Ultimate Vintage & Craft Fayres, a 1940s style tea room and vintage fairground rides.

The Wings Parachute Display Team landed their helicopter in the grounds during the event, which also included a climbing wall, archery and rifle range for people to try.

Two veterans were also presented with Armed Forces Veteran's Badges by Dudley's Mayor and Deputy Lieutenant Tom Westley.

Councillor Sue Greenaway, Mayor of Dudley, said: "This was a tremendous day, I felt massively privileged to be a part of it. Our armed forces are so brave, whether serving in conflict or providing humanitarian assistance, it was a real honour to be part of this event.

"Our visitors had a fantastic time, scaling climbing walls, trying a swing dance session, sampling an afternoon tea or talking to one of the many military reps and re-enactors.

"I hope people join us for our next big event at the park – Black Country Musicom and the Ibiza Weekender."
