RESIDENTS are invited to attend an historic regional ceremony in Dudley confirming the former Prince of Wales as the new King.
King Charles III’s succession to the throne was proclaimed at the Accession Council today (Saturday September 10) and the Principal Proclamation was read at 11am in London and televised for the first time.
The Mayor of Dudley will read the regional Accession Proclamation on Sunday (September 11) at 1pm on the steps of the Council House on Priory Road in Dudley.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the event which will include a blessing given by the Bishop of Dudley, Martin Gorick.
Flags on key borough buildings are now flying at full mast marking the new King’s succession to the throne and they will return to half-mast after the regional proclamation on Sunday until the day after the Queen’s funeral as a mark of respect for her late Majesty.
In Dudley – flags can be seen on Dudley Council House, Dudley Town Hall, Stourbridge Town Hall and Dudley Castle.
Councillor Sue Greenaway, the Mayor of Dudley, said: “This is a significant moment in our country’s history, and it is an honour to read the regional proclamation on behalf of the people of Dudley borough.
“Although we are a nation in mourning, this is a moment for us come together and mark our new Sovereign’s succession to the throne.
“Dudley Performing Arts will perform God Save the King and I will ask people to join me in giving three cheers for His Majesty the King.”
