WE welcomed a new member and a visitor to our April meeting, when Sue Merrill came along to tell us her story From one pig to another".
She joined the police force and was stationed in the London area, one of her duties was driving a panda car, she then applied to become a mounted policewoman and much to her surprise was accepted.
After training she became a member of the Metropolitan Mounted Police Force. She told us of her duties, from escorting the changing of the guards down to the mall, crowd control at football matches and being on duty at demonstrations.
Although she loved her job as a mounted policewoman, she followed her heart and arrived in the Midlands. After purchasing a parcel of land on Kinver Edge her new life began, she now breeds and shows pedigree large black pigs.
She also has a small flock of Soay Sheep, a breed that came from St Kilda. We found Sue's talk most interesting with some very amusing anecdotes.Sue was asked to judge the competition and chose Dulcies' favourite pig' the winner.
Since our March meeting members have attended the spring council meeting at Malvern and the group meeting hosted by Broome WI, we had a most enjoyable skittles evening with our twinned WI Arley. At Kingswinford Country Club, and have been invited to join them at their meeting this month.
The walking group had a walk at Baggeridge Country park and although a little muddy under foot, found plenty of spring flowers and wild life to see.
The Childrens Keep Kinver Tidy' posters have been judged and will be displayed in shop windows in Kinver. It will soon be the Kinver Fayre so members are required to man our stall. This should be a busy day.
It will be resolutions at our next meeting, but we also have Eden Blue' who are situated in the High Street, coming along to tell us of the treatment they have available.
This will be on Monday 12th May at 7:30pm in the Senior Citizens Hall, High Street. No competition this month but there will be a sales table.
